Fond memories of a bygone era
Ah the afternoons spent playing Pac-man on the Atari. What console did you used to own 'back in the day'? Were you a Nintendo fan or were you a 'Genesis does what Ninten-dont' Sega person? Back then Sega and Nintendo were huge rivals but now you can get Sonic on the Wii!! Madness. Its seems Nintendo one in the end since its still here today and doing pretty well for itself with the Wii. Could Nintendo carry on long after Microsoft and Sony are gone? Will Nintendo forever supply us with gaming pleasure or will Microsoft buy up Nintendo and Sony to have the monopoly of the market just like they just about have with their Operating System software for PC's (Windows). Will we have over expensive games console (PS3?) that crash all the time (Windows?) where a different 'version' comes out every year that needs more and more processing power and is more and more crap? All 3rd party hardware and games wont be compatible with the older versions so you will have to wait for patches! What do you think the future of gaming will bring?
Re: Fond memories of a bygone era
Back in the day, I was a sega fan by default
My dad got me a Sega Master System (SMS) and from that point on, I was forever a Sonic fan. I still prefer Sonic to Mario, although I hate to say that the latter's games haven't diminished over time like Sonic's have. People seem to have forgotten that the first few games (the good ones) were slower and had more emphasis on platforming rather than "ZOMG HE RUNS FASTER THAN A SPEEDING BULLET LOLOLOLOLO!11!11!! LOOP-DA-LOOPS!!11!".
If you want my opinion on where gaming pleasure (that doesn't sound right...) is then I'll have to say go retro. None of the new consoles have given me as much fun as the older ones; neither did last-gen actually
If you want to find a title that will make you believe that retro games are the best, then pick up Chrono Trigger for the SNES, it's one of my all time favourites (I say that a lot ).

Re: Fond memories of a bygone era
Whats chrono trigger about? Is it a long lasting game? I hate games that last for like 4 hours or so and make you feel that youve wasted your money on them.

Re: Fond memories of a bygone era
Asking if Chrono Trigger is going to be a waste of money is like some sort of sick joke. Chrono Trigger is an RPG developed by "the dream team".
Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of the Final Fantasy series), Kazuhiko Aoki (recently worked on the FFIII DS remake), Nobuo Uematsu (composer from the Final Fantasy series), Yuuji Horii (creator of the Dragon Quest series) and Akira Toriyama (artist of Dragonball/Z and Dragon Quest) all worked on Chrono Trigger, and did a damn fine job if you ask me.
It features the same sort of gameplay that you'd expect from a Final Fantasy game (ATB system is there) but the story is what makes this game unique.
With that said, I don't want to spoil it, but I'll tell you more over MSN.

Re: Fond memories of a bygone era
You can probably buy a copy off ebay and it might set you back around £20 - £25 although it will only work on an American SNES. There is a PS1 version although I wouldn't recommend it because of the horribly long loading times (10 seconds pause before battle, and after battle. Oh and for opening the menu). And that will also require an American PS1.
Although through improper channels, you can get the game for free.
*COUGH*I happen to be an improper channel*COUGH*
